Subject to opinions, should we roll with a brand new site name or stick with Preys World as our moniker? Prey was pretty keen to wash his hands of the site last time I spoke with him, and it's been nearly a year since his online exodus. But then, we've no idea what we'd call a new site either. So discussion, suggestions and opinions below please. As soon as there's some form of agreement we can start rolling out a new domain.

If the name is important to everybody then of course, we would have to keep the name.
The fact is, Prey is kinda GONE now. Why keep that association?
We could always put a "FORMERLY PREYS WORLD" banner at the top?

I agree we need a subheading for say the first year that says formerly Preys-World and make sure that shows up on Google.
Hmm a new name though? That's tougher to think of something snappy and good.
Deaglesmoke?
[I'll just edit this post with any more suggestions.]

I suppose it depends if we want people to still associate with the forum what the name has meant as a community over the years. I think it has gone beyond just being Prey's name on the forum. I personally would think it might be a bit weird to change it now.

Actually that's a good point, if we don't change the name then the logo can definitely go and Phil could design a new one, and whatever we decide on social media is massive compared to 2003 so definitely support it with a FB page as well for growing membership.

My main concern with changing it is whether we lose members as a result. We're already a very small community and I don't want to see it shrink any further because people just can't get behind a new name. And as Ken says, coming up with a decent replacement name will be tough.
But then I don't see a point in keeping the name when it's most likely that Prey will never even visit the place or know it exists. The dude has gone off the radar completely, as much as it's a shame to lose the moniker because we've all frequented the same site for 10+ years.

Miller's Crossing? but seriously, Just trying to think really, the most recent example I can think of for a successful name change was AMC Movie Talk where this US cinema chain operated a Youtube channel. When the chain decided to close that down, all the staff moved over to a smaller brand called Collider Video but it was all the same show and they were able to make new types of content and that transfer has been a success with people moving to the new brand and in my case I was a brand new subscriber to Collider without ever having watched the AMC series. So if we can pull that off, great.

Whilst I agree that the name did rise above the fact it was indeed "Prey's World", Prey's website, etc... You've kinda also got to realise that it's the people, not the name that made the place special.
I mean, I get it, "preys-world" is just something that just rolls of the tongue and it will be hard to call any new site anything but. But the only reason it will be difficult is nostalgia. It will still be OUR little place on the internet to go to and talk shit about.

MM's Retreat for the socially awkward...
I'd prefer it to stay the same for them *tears in the eyes* good times we had on PW's *starts bawling*
But if you find enough wanting a name change then so be it.

Anyone feeling like a spiritual and evangelical rebirth?
Praise World.

Also, with how small the community is/was these days, we need to ask ourselves what the future holds in terms of kicking off a new forum.
Is the plan just to have a little place for us few remaining PW'ers to chat about games until we all drop off one by one? Or do any of you have any ideas for trying to get new blood and make it truly something new and fresh?
It's a tough thing to contemplate I know - I guess the easiest thing would be just to set up a free (with the low member count do we need to pay money for hosting?) new forum with a similar name for the time being.

In my view that is perfect considering it's a forum in-joke from that Manchester newspaper article and it's a good way to get rid of the goat logo which I frankly never liked much, no offence afterMAT or whoever designed it (though the colour scheme worked, Red's always good with Silver and Black).
[EDIT] @ Katarn - I vote new blood all the way, Praise-World sounds the same as the old name for a start.

It'd be nice to try and inject a bit of variety into the place and get a ton of new members, but actually achieving that is another issue entirely, every time we've tried in the past we've not had a great deal of success. I'd love to see the community grow again and be like it was in 2003-2008, but as fun as it would be to make something else of it I don't think many of us have the time to go to such efforts anymore.

Well there's nothing wrong with doing the bare minimum IE putting the new URL in the sigs of other forums that we're members of, that's how Sly Boots saw the place and I should do the same again at AVforums as it's so much larger.
